Thousands remember the Tiananmen massacre

Tens of thousands of people gathered in Hong Kong to commemorate the anniversary of the massacre in Tiananmen Square, where the military crushed a pro-democracy movement in 1989 - at a time when China began a crackdown against political opponents. In Beijing, where the Tiananmen demonstrations remain a taboo subject, thousands of tourists, overseas Chinese and mostly dressed in mourning black, visited the plaza in the middle of an important safety device.

Taiwan United States pressed China to release dissidents and recognize the bloody crackdown on protests for democracy in Tiananmen Square 22 years ago.
