A huge explosion today damaged a hotel in the Libyan city of Benghazi (east), the capital of the rebels against the dictatorship of Qaddafi, as reported by Arab satellite television. According to preliminary information released by Al Jazeera, the explosion came from a car parked outside the hotel Tibesti.
Television footage showed several cars on fire at the front of the hotel, one of the largest in Libya's second city and is often host to diplomats, journalists and officials of the Libyan rebel movement. Located on the seafront in central Benghazi, in the past has even been chosen by the National Transitional Council (the de facto government of the rebels) to his press conferences.
An employee of the Tibesti has assured France Presse that he has not seen any injured person inside. Neither has seen the arrival of ambulances at the scene, which has been occupied for about five hundred people waving rebel flags of Libya.
