Suspected secret: Militrpolizei searches Czech TV

They came with machine guns: A command of the military police entered the headquarters of the Czech Television in Prague, and searched for hours for a document. A journalist for the station had reported on corruption in the military. The Czech Defence Minister Alexandr Vondra, the actions of the military police against the Czech Television (CT), shall report to the ORF. An armed with machine guns command of the military police had entered the night Saturday in the broadcast center in Prague.


The masked men had a search warrant on suspicion of passing secret documents. A dozen military police had occupied the office of the editor Karel Rozanek and confiscated computers, notes, business cards, video cassettes and other materials, the public broadcaster reported Saturday. The unit had left the building only to 1 clock each morning.

As a consequence of Defense Vondra suspended the head of the military police on Saturday. Earlier, the news editor of television, Karel Novak, the demonstration of power of the military police as "completely unacceptable" condemned. The newspaper Dnes "compared the action with the Spiegel affair of 1962, had searched in the editorial offices of the police news magazine in Hamburg.

The soldiers searched for a material from the year 2007, the journalist had reported on the Rozanek. Intent of Defense at that time was the former head of military intelligence, Miroslav Krejcik because he wanted to expose corruption in the department.
