The spokesman for Clinton's resignation after his critics on the treatment of the Private Manning

The spokesman for the State Department, Philip Crowley, announced his resignation Sunday, March 13 due to "impact" of his criticism of the Pentagon about the conditions of detention of Bradley Manning. This soldier is jailed for passing secret documents to Wikileaks. The treatment to which the soldier is subjected Manning is "ridiculous, stupid and cons-productive," said Philip Crowley had, according to comments reported Friday by a BBC journalist on his blog.

"Given the impact of my comments, which I take full responsibility, I submitted my resignation as spokesman for the State Department," Mr. Crowley announced Sunday in a statement. In the same statement, the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said he accepted the resignation of Mr. Crowley, it welcomed "the deep dedication to public service and diplomacy" U.S..

The functions of Crowley will be temporarily handled by Mike Hammer, who was previously his deputy, Mrs. Clinton added, which was due to fly on Sunday for a trip to Paris, Tunisia and Egypt. President Barack Obama reacted sharply Friday during a press conference with comments from Mr. Crowley, noting that the Pentagon had assured him that Private Manning received treatment "correct" and "normal".

Mr. Crowley explained later in Boston expressing his "personal opinion" and not "the government's official policy position of the United States." In his statement Sunday, he maintained his position. He recognizes that what is charged Bradley Manning, namely the unauthorized disclosure of classified information, "is a serious crime in the eyes of American law." But, he adds, "the exercise of power in this difficult time and a relentless media environment, must be informed and consistent with our laws and our values." Private Manning 23 years, charged and detained for having passed to Wikileaks thousands of secret documents U.S., detailed this week in a 11-page note the abuse he was subjected.

He states that the military authorities responsible for his case had abused their authority by classifying it as a prisoner at risk, likely to endanger his physical and demanding conditions of "maximum security". "With the current restrictions, in addition to being exposed in the evening, I am held in solitary confinement," the soldier called back to duty guards all his clothes, including his underwear.

It also indicates that he was forbidden to have him in his cell with his personal effects, he can only read one book or magazine at the time he must go to the end of the day, and that it is not allowed to exercise in his cell.
