Arab world to date

The ruler of Oman decided to give some legislative powers to a council partly elected, said state news agency in an apparent effort to quell the protests in the Persian Gulf sultanate. ONA agency also said that the Sultan Qaboos bin Said double the monthly welfare payments and increased pension benefits, becoming the last ruler of the Gulf to offer attractive incentives to citizens after the riots that have gripped much of the Arab world .

Waves of protesters blocked a main road to the Bahrain Financial Harbour, a major banking center district of the Persian Gulf, clashing with police who fired tear gas and water cannons at the crowd. In one of the most violent confrontations since soldiers opened fire on protesters last month, youths set up barricades along the highway after overwhelm riot police near the Pearl Roundabout, the focus of weeks demonstrations.

Bahrain's crown prince offered the mostly Shiite opposition assurances that a national dialogue would consider their demands.
