MADRID, 6 Jun. The president of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez, and Ecuadorian Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patino, on Monday congratulated President-elect of Peru, Ollanta Humala, for his victory in the Peruvian elections. Patiño Fernández and celebrated the ascension to the position of Humala, who won the electoral victory in the second round of the elections held on Sunday.
In a telephone interview, Humala thanked the congratulations of the president of Argentina and he recalled the "good relations" he had with Néstor Kirchner, who praised the work performed in front of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR). In this sense, Humala pledged to arrange a visit to Argentina, once the new government takes office, according to the state agency Telam Argentina.
For its part, Patino described as "encouraging" the victory of Humala in the Peruvian presidential because it shows that "the most neglected sectors of Peru, reaching the government." He stressed the desire expressed by Humala to promote Latin American integration. "We are delighted to hear something that confirms what we had always heard of it," he said in remarks carried by the official agency Ecuadorian Andes.
The Ecuadorian Minister also expressed confidence that the excellent relations Ecuador and Peru may be consolidated with the new government will assume office on July 28.
