Rousseff defends his chief of staff, involved in a corruption scandal

BRASILIA, 27 May. (Reuters) - The president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, has defended his chief of staff, Antonio Palocci, wrapped in a case of alleged corruption by his excessive enrichment between 2007 and 2010, a period which served as a private consultant and Rep. simultaneously, leading to increase 20 times its equity.

"I regret that a case like this is being politicized," said Rousseff, while assured that Palocci "is giving all the necessary explanations to audit agencies" to dispel doubts about his honesty. The prosecution has demanded the minister to submit all relevant documents pertaining to the business at that time, before the accusations of the opposition Party of Brazilian Social Democracy (PSDB), which ensures that the politician helped his clients get a tax refund.

However, both Palocci, a key government adviser, as Rousseff have rejected these accusations, saying his behavior was due at all times. "The tax rebate has nothing to do with manipulation," stressed the president. For now, his parliamentary majority has allowed a slow Rousseff Palocci appearance before the legislators to be accountable for its actions in that period.

However, even this could trigger an inquiry into the legislature. In 2006, the Chief of Staff had to resign from his post as finance minister in the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for his involvement in a similar case. In fact, the former president advised Rousseff in the management of this scandal.

According to the Brazilian press has advised you to recompose the unhappy relations with its allies to avoid a government crisis.
