After four months of proceedings, the court of state security in Sanaa on Saturday condemned in absentia, for being unaccounted-for 15 years in prison for a terrorist of Al Qaeda by planning and preparing the suicide attack that killed eight Spanish tourists to 200 kilometers east of Sanaa, the capital of the country in July 2007.
The attack also killed two of his companions Yemeni and two Yemenis. The Court found Nimr Raduán the Emar Ebad to Waili guilty of "membership of an armed group that aimed to attack foreign tourists." The attack took place in the province of Mareb and was perpetrated by a suicide bomber (militant identified as Abu Mohamed Saad Al Qaeda Ruhaiqa, 21) driving a vehicle loaded with explosives that rammed his car into the convoy four vehicles that traveled the 13 Spanish tourists who were returning to Sanaa after a visit to the temple of the Queen of Sheba, as confirmed at the time the then Foreign Minister Angel Moratinos Miguén.
In addition to the four vehicles in the convoy traveled two Yemeni security cars. In September, Yemeni authorities reported that Al Waili and a colleague, Hamza al-Diani, would be tried in absentia for his involvement in the attack. Three months earlier, the governor of the province of Mareb, Naji al-Zaidi, had revealed that al-Diani had surrendered to the authorities, but since then has been known of his whereabouts, or has been officially informed of the commencement of the trial against him .
The Yemeni authorities identified as the alleged mastermind of the attack on Hamza al Qaiti, who died on August 12, 2009 in a raid in Hadramut province, 190 kilometers southeast of the country. After the attack, the authorities of Yemen announced that ten suspects sought to prepare the attack, including Qazem to Rimi, head of Al Qaeda operations in Yemen.
