Four demonstrators were killed by the Yemeni army

Violence in northern Yemen were on Friday killed at least four in this region where there is a Shiite rebellion. According to an official of local government, the victims were hit by police gunfire. The official and rebel sources have said that soldiers opened fire on protesters who approached their position, chanting slogans against President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The Zaidi rebellion (followers of a branch of Shiism) in northern Yemen, has joined the protests across the country that requires several weeks since the departure of President Saleh, in power for thirty-two years. France condemned Friday "the excessive use of force" against demonstrators in Yemen and asked the "continuation" of the perpetrators.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bernard Valero, called on President Ali Abdullah Saleh to "implement" its proposals to open, "on the basis of a common road map, concrete and credible." Al-Jazeera offers insight into the components of the Yemeni opposition.
