Gadhafi ordered intensified crackdown on opponents

.- The Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi on Wednesday ordered intensified fighting against rebel positions in several cities in eastern and western Libya, while there were renewed clashes in Tripoli, the capital. Troops loyal to the Libyan leader on Sunday launched an intensive air and ground offensive against rebels in the cities of Zawiyah, which reported 50 dead and Misrata, located to the west and east of the Libyan capital, as well as the port of Ras Lanuf.

Both sides claimed responsibility for the control of the cities, where access to the media is blocked, according to reports from the Arab channels Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya. According to the Qatari television station, the rebels trying to enter Sirte, hometown and a stronghold of Gadhafi, and fierce battles are fought in the region of Al Aqila, 60 miles east of Ras Lanuf.

The Libyan leader, in an interview with French newspaper Journal du Dimanche, reiterated that the rebels are terrorists of al Qaeda, and regretted that the international community supports their struggle, mainly the United States and Western nations. "I'm surprised that no one understands that this is a fight against terrorism ...

We have helped (the West) a lot in recent years. Why when we fight against terrorism in Libya does not help anyone? "He asked. Gaddafi said the young rebels are being used by Al Qaeda, children who are hallucinogenic pills and 'believe that guns are a kind of fireworks. " The Libyan leader warned that continuing the uprising, there will be a Muslim holy war against the West from the Ocean Mediterranean, leading to a global crisis and the 'disaster' of the planet.

In his interview, Gadhafi denied that its troops have bombed civilians, and called on the United Nations and the African Union (AU) to send a special mission to investigate what's really happening in Libya. 'We will allow commission is to investigate on the spot without putting any obstacle, "he stressed, but rejected the possibility of being tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague for crimes against humanity.

On the complaints of excessive use of force to quell demonstrations against him early to mid-February, before the rebellion it faces now, Gadhafi insisted he never fired his people, but acknowledged that civilians were killed. "The Algerian regime in all his years of struggle against Islamic extremism, has not made use of force?, will the Israelis do not have civilian casualties caused by bombing Gaza because armed groups are there? "he said.

He likened the situation also with Afghanistan or Iraq, where U.S. troops and the Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) regularly shoot on civilians, he said, after stating that 'Libya has not shot anybody. " Meanwhile, in Tripoli, authorities reported gunfire high caliber, with no accurate reports of what happens, because it remains surrounded the capital.

Authorities said the shots heard in Tripoli for two hours were to celebrate the alleged recovery of the cities of Ras Lanuf and Misrata.
