Hamas and Fatah signed their reconciliation agreement

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, head of Fatah, and the leader of the Hamas political bureau, Khaled Meshal, has completed a reconciliation agreement, Wednesday, May 4, at a ceremony in Cairo, in which three Israeli Arab MKs participated. Signed the day before, the agreement puts an end to the division between the West Bank and Gaza and opens the way for elections within a year.

In Gaza City, about seven hundred protesters marched to the Place-Unknown Soldier, the national flag waving Palestinian flags and green for the Islamists of Hamas, and yellow for the nationalists of Fatah, in an atmosphere of celebration and excitement good child. "This is the first time in four years that I can hold a flag of Fatah in the Palestinian side of the color" welcomed Mahmoud Al-ship, an engineer of 20 years, wrapped in a Palestinian flag.

The mood was optimistic after four years of violence, division and animosity between the two main Palestinian factions, a 20 year old student hailing "one of the most important days of the Palestinian cause." The announcement was welcomed by the king of Jordan and Iran. But, meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said the agreement was "a blow to peace and a great victory for terrorism." Reaction denounced by Mahmoud Abbas accused the Israeli prime minister to use the Palestinian reconciliation as an "excuse" to avoid peace talks.

He said the Palestinian president should have demanded a "clear statement from Hamas including on recognition of Israel, a condemnation of terrorism, before signing. "We will form a government of technocrats, and we will not demand that Hamas recognize Israel," Abbas said in Cairo on Tuesday.

In addition, Matan Vilnai criticized the decision announced Sunday by the Finance Minister, Yuval Steinitz, to suspend the transfer of funds to the Palestinian Authority following the announcement of the agreement between Fatah and Hamas. "This is money that belongs to the Palestinians that we charge for them," he recalled.

In this case, we put the cart before the horse, we should have waited to see if money was not used as needed before acting. " Israel froze the transfer of 300 million shekels (59.6 million), collected on behalf of the Palestinian Authority on goods passing through its ports and airports, claiming to wish to ensure that no party would reach Hamas.
