"We have unanimously nominated Mario Draghi as the successor of Jean-Claude Trichet," Juncker said at a press conference after a meeting in Brussels of the finance ministers of the euro area .

Her formal appointment will however have to wait until late June next summit of Heads of State and Government of the European Union. "Mario Draghi will be the new president of the ECB, it enjoys an international reputation and great European, he has proven that he is strongly tied to the euro, the Economic and Monetary Union, the EU and its construction and integration, "he commented Mr Juncker.

"It brings together all the elements to be a worthy successor to Jean-Claude Trichet, who was a prominent bank president," he added. Mr. Trichet, whose term ends in late October will be spent eight years as head of the Monetary Institute in Frankfurt.
