Ban called on Israelis and Palestinians to show restraint

The UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon today called for restraint after Israelis and Palestinians that fifteen people were killed and over 210 injured in numerous demonstrations in Gaza, West Bank, Syria and Lebanon and asked to avoid provocations. "The secretary general is deeply concerned with the significant number of people killed and injured.

Calls on all parties to show restraint and avoid responding to provocations to prevent an escalation of tensions and ensure that no further civil or die injured, "said UN spokesman, Martin Nesirky, told reporters. Nesirky explained that Ban had followed "about the serious incidents in the Palestinian territories, the Blue Line between Israel and Lebanon and the Golan Heights after the violation of the separation line from the Syrian side," so calls for "calm in the region and the greatest responsibility" for the parties.

The statement came after Palestinian marches to the borders with Israel to commemorate the "Day of Catastrophe" or Nakba, the Palestinian exile coincided with the creation of the Israeli state, resulted in bloody clashes with Israeli forces. The highest number of deaths occurred on Sunday in the southern Lebanese town of Maroun Ras, when Israeli soldiers shot and tried to prevent thousands of protesters from approaching the border and killed ten people, while 112 were injured.

Ban "is fully aware of the untenable situation in the Arab-Israeli conflict," said UN spokesman, who noted that Ban reiterated "the urgent necessity of reaching a peace accord just and lasting settlement that ensures the dignity and security of all. " That agreement, as the head of the UN, must include "the end of occupation, conflict and achieving a just and agreed solution to the plight of Palestinian refugees." So, Ban urged "a renewed and persistent effort for the resumption of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, and also advance the goal of achieving peace throughout the Middle East." For its part, the undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs agency, Valerie Amos, who is in the Palestinian territories in a statement expressed its "extreme concern" over the "high" number of dead and injured "and that" the situation can continue, with innocent people losing their lives.

" The Palestinian representative to the UN, Riad Mansour, sent a letter to the Security Council and Secretary General in which he explained the events of Sunday and which calls on the international community to act to stop Israel and compel it to comply international law, including human rights.

"Israel must face the same rules and standards than other states, including in relation to its treatment of peaceful protesters demonstrating for their rights," says the document, which specifically calls for "more action" to Security Council. The top international security body should direct their attention, as Mansur, "a crisis that threatens alarmingly peace and security", and should act to "a fragile situation that requires urgent action by the international community" , which invites you to "honor their commitments to freedom, peace and dignity of the Palestinian people."
