Vittorio Arrigoni, Human

It was not just a volunteer, Vittorio Arrigoni. He was an activist. He was a pacifist. He was an expert on the Palestinian question. He was a writer and a journalist. But above all, was a clear voice, a witness to a complex reality, one in Gaza, who lived inside. Of course, no Italian newspaper had prepared a "crocodile" celebration of Vittorio Arrigoni.

Not because it was known that he lived in a risky situation, but because the entries are entries like its uncomfortable. Why Arrigoni, who wrote the Human belRestiamo and told of Gaza on Guerrilla Radio, a blog, it was a difficult character to deal with, from Italy. Not content to be told from home the reality that he lived.

Not content to provide a binary representation of reality. Would not yield to easy slogans and good vs. bad dualism, but built, day by day, a story, a fresco of a situation never really understood, never really represented. Read, for example, as recounted an attack by Hamas security forces in a peaceful demonstration of Palestinians, and you'll understand what it means to have the capacity of narrative and analysis, without yielding to the instinct of trivialization.

Vittorio Arrigoni was not worried that then maybe the people at home do not understand (one of the biggest problems of the communication system), did not spare criticism even untouchables: destined to harsh words when the writer Roberto Saviano praised the democracy of Israel . It was an uncomfortable voice, the kind that shakes the right-minded, left and right, one of those voices that blows the traditional logic of a statement which tends to simplify reality in order to propose slogans and messages easy to understand (a very harmful traditional communication , which lowers the level of confrontation and that, to the detriment of the alleged immediacy, does that prevent the understanding of the facts).

Vittorio Arrigoni was not the hero, told without personality: he was a channel for a communication flow that could only spread virally, from the bottom, except for his reporting for The Manifesto. His death reminded me - apart from the specific characteristics and differences - that of Enzo Baldoni (remember that on this blog).

For these reasons, and only for them, I thought of having to write, without pathetic pity. To provide the reader who had never crossed the writings of Arrigoni, the chance to know him through his words, which must be shared as much as possible. And please, do not yield to the easy rhetoric of whether she went to look for, as is already happening.

It would simply be offensive. Not only for him but also for us. Why Vittorio Arrigoni was, more than anything else, human.
