Gaza, kidnapped and killed Arrigoni Previous

A photo of Vittorio Arrigoni taken from his Facebook profile Vittorio Arrigoni, Italian activist for Human Rights International Solidarity Movement kidnapped yesterday in Gaza, was killed. His body was found in an abandoned house during a raid by Hamas forces. It is not the first time activists, volunteers and Italian journalists engaged in missions abroad are kidnapped, in some cases, the seizure had a happy ending, in some it has ended tragically.

Here are the most famous cases. -16 May 2005: Clementina Cantoni, cooperating with Care International, was seized in Afghanistan. Stay for 24 days in the hands of the kidnappers, then is freed. -4 February 2005: in Iraq is kidnapped journalist Giuliana Sgrena that the Manifesto is to Baghdad to carry out a series of reports.

After a month was released by Italian secret services after a long negotiation. During the liberation is killed Nicola Calipari, the agent of the security services that is leading to safety. -7 September 2004: Simona Torretta and Simona Pari, operators of NGOs, are kidnapped in Baghdad.

After three weeks of captivity are released. -21 August 2004: Enzo Baldoni, a freelance journalist in Iraq, is kidnapped by the Islamic Army in Najaf. After an ultimatum to Italy, which calls for the withdrawal of troops within 48 hours is killed. -13 April 2004: Fabrizio Quattrocchi, Italian member of a private military company in Iraq, is kidnapped along with three colleagues: Umberto Cupertino, Maurizio Agliana and Salvatore Stefio by militiamen who call themselves 'Green Phalanges of Muhammad'.

The day after Quattrocchi is killed. His colleagues are instead freed after 58 days of captivity.
