A world without head

It was the Libyan affair dismayed to engage the attention of the world was crazy and cruel violence of a head of state unprincipled and unscrupulous become a bloodthirsty serial killer in these last days of permanence and strength, a kind of Hitler even more mad that they say as we write, is planning to bomb the sources of its oil in order to create a huge death for all those who supported him and those who fought to the end.

In total, this show of ferocity seemed almost normal regime transitions occurred in Egypt and Tunisia. But they are not. Countries are waiting to fill a void of identity, governance and future. And all that for now we can see very little. Other countries are already in the torment of the insurgency that now call "people" but in reality are a rare occurrence in history: the crowd is ready but there is no leader.

No calls, no driving. The publishers feel it already in the air soon sociologists and political scientists will present fresh essays to celebrate the two new facts: Young people are released on their own. And computer technology allows a type of contact, persuasion and mutual Autoconvocate that before never existed and that, henceforth, will be the fatal path of the great political events of mass.

Our inevitable attention, admiration, anxious for what is happening in a very important part of the Arab world, the offense that we feel for the stupid cruelty of Gaddafi (and, for us Italians, the shame of being linked to Gaddafi still a Treaty told to "close partnership" that binds us even more reason to give him, as did the government of our country) distracts us from events that are happening in other important parts of the world.

For example, Iraq, a country certainly not lacking in wealth, power and importance strategiaca is without leaders and without a government, after regular elections for nearly a year. For example, in Lebanon can not survive and emerge a leader capable of guiding, if not the country, at least a credible government to compromise.

For example, in Somalia, the world lost hope that there can never be a government and a state. But not consoled by the thought that everything that happens in countries with no democratic tradition. In Europe there is Belgium. It does not have government by 249 days. They have become typical, endless, colorful, non-violent demonstration of citizens who want to stay together, or are opposed to the stupid idea of breaking the country along the lines of division between the Flemish and Walloons.

But above all, one thing leaps to the eye. There Belgium, there are Walloons and Flemings, there are parties and different political and economic proposals. If you want a foreign policy there, maybe just as gray and misty as the whole European foreign policy. Lacking a leader. We're not talking about the personality that oozes charisma and common consensus.

We are only talking about someone who can - but determined - to hold together two peoples who are not really divided, to form a government, an administration to manage and run institutions. There is also a king, in Belgium, then a more ceremonial and form that can give a hand to his willingness to take the lead of the parade.

But not enough. Nobody wants to drive the bus Belgium, whatever the way to go. But if allargarghiamo the shot we see that the situation of driving without head that I am describing goes far beyond the individual examples or the great moments that seem to the story but that, without interpretation (who I am, who guide them, what they want where do they go?) remains a murky affair that many glorify and many see as a threat.

For example, the immense and stubborn student marches that have shocked Italy for weeks, appeared from nowhere and ended in nothing. One of those marches in Rome, it remained the image of a young man who is neither the police nor protesters, but a violent strikes another young protester with a helmet shot to the face.

Let's face it, still do not really know who was the aggressor and if we are faced with a quick click of madness or something mysteriously preordained. But the workers' protests? Some, even extreme, such as climbing the crane in a factory closed or abandoned, as the threat of suicide, extreme spontaneous demonstration, as the exile of hundreds of workers on the island dell, alternately remembered and forgotten, according to second moments and the media.

Let us remember that even the largest event ever occurred in Republican, the demonstration of women in more than two hundred Italian piazzas, just a few weeks ago, came from a great Autoconvocate by persons unknown to unknown persons. In short, much of what is happening in the world, a vast popular disassociation from what, at the moment is the power, while a dissociation sensational and mostly non-violent, occurs with a sort of push from below, above, is not accepted and is not expected by anyone.

Indeed, no one sits at the head of the new mass of people (usually younger) who had gathered spontaneously. If you think about it, the question: who is the leader here? across the world. There is, in this new, unexpected situation of the masses who have no leaders, a series of questions that are currently unanswered.

The head is missing because, for a strange and unusual phenomenon, is not there, or because you refused? The new bedding (and free of human structures Autoconvocate looking for a head) was formed - for reasons that apparently have not yet been studied - in a new psychology and sociology of the movement, or is the technique of connection (the network) that makes smooth and expeditious contact the horizontal but the vertical structure has no interest in self-assembly that is emerging, namely: put on a boss? If, then, here lies the hope and interest in the new that is emerging and that naturally crosses the generational shift the much discussed, there is a different source of anxiety but not unfounded.

What will happen if well-organized groups and completely separate from the protest will be held ready, in the name of interests or ideals that do not know, to take the lead of the great spontaneous movement born from the network? Any complaint of this kind at the moment is instrumental.

Those who want to sow panic sees Al Qaeda as the leader of the masses in revolt in North Africa. Who has an interest in discrediting them is of students and unions, each time a dangerous subversive intentions. The fact remains that today, public opinion, but also the certainty of the experts (from the network created a different combination of "people") and a question that is sometimes a nightmare: who impossesserà of revolution in a world without leaders? , February 27, 2011
