Army .- Three Senegalese soldiers were killed and three others wounded in clashes with an armed group allegedly built in the separatist Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC), reported the private Sud FM radio, citing military sources. According to the radio, the clashes occurred near Bignona, a town about sixty miles from Ziguinchor, where the armed forces carried out several days a cleanup operations in the areas occupied by the rebels.
With three new soldiers dead, the casualties suffered by the Senegalese army between December and February amounted to 19. The MFDC has resumed the armed struggle, ending six years of relative calm following a ceasefire agreement signed in December 2004 between the Government and rebellion.
The cease-fire should pave the way for peace negotiations to take even convened because of deep divisions between moderate and extremist wings MDFC. The rebel movement has improved its weapons because it has sophisticated weapons from Iran, has revealed a report by the staff of the Senegalese armed forces.
Following this report, the government of Senegal has announced this week his decision to break diplomatic relations with Iran, considering that the soldiers killed during recent weeks in Casamance have been killed by bullets Iranians.
