New details on preparations for the raid against Osama bin Laden

The CIA sent stealth drones at dozens of secret missions in Pakistan to obtain information on the residence where Osama bin Laden lived, said Tuesday the Washington Post. The paper said that the CIA has used these machines to fly at high altitude without being detected and provide high resolution video films before Osama Bin Laden was killed May 2 in Abbottabad.

The CIA also used satellites, listening devices and secret agents based in a safe house in Abbottabad where bin Laden lived about five years until he was spotted, said the Washington Post. Stealth aircraft have produced images that have been watched by President Barack Obama and his national security team when the raid took place at night.

Another stealth aircraft, a Black Hawk helicopter, equipped with a special coating to suppress noise and prevent its detection, has also been used in the operation of Abbottabad, but U.S. forces have destroyed after it was to crash-landing. According to U.S. officials, Predators and other surveillance aircraft could be detected by radar and other systems of Pakistan since the military and nuclear facilities located near the residence of bin Laden.

Stealth drones evoked by the Washington Post, probably type RQ-170 Sentinel Lockheed Martin, can shoot from steep angles in all directions, and thus would not need to fly directly over their target.
