Attack of Marrakech: the seven suspects charged with terrorism

A magistrate in Rabat terrorism charges against the seven suspects in the bombing of Marrakech "constitution of criminal gang to prepare and commit terrorist acts," he said Tuesday, 17 May a judicial source. They will be tried before the court of appeal in Rabat under the Terrorism Act which was adopted in Morocco in 2004, the source said.

According to the indictment as it was made Tuesday by the judge, the seven suspects, including the main implicated Adil Al-Othman, are also accused of "seriously undermine public order, murder with premeditation and treachery, possession and manufacture of explosives and belonging to a banned religious group.

" The judge did not specify the name and nature of the religious group to which the defendants are suspected of belonging. The attack took place in Marrakech on April 28 and killed seventeen people, including eight French. Before being submitted to the judge, the suspects were interrogated by the prosecutor of the Court of Appeal of Rabat, the only judicial body in charge of terrorism cases in Morocco.

This is the deadliest attack since the Islamist attacks in Casablanca in 2003, which killed thirty three people. The seven suspects, "all live in Safi," 350 kilometers south of Casablanca. The attack occurred on the cafe terrace Argana in the famous Djemaa el-Fna in Marrakech, Morocco's tourism mecca.
