The appointment of Saif Al-Adel was also reported by the Pakistani newspaper The News, quoting unidentified sources in an article dated in Rawalpindi, a city near Islamabad that houses the headquarters of the Pakistani army.

Benotman says this appointment at the head of al-Qaida could be a way for the nebula to test reactions to the arrival in power of a leader does not come from the Arabian Peninsula, Islam's holy land , for the introduction of the one who appears as the natural successor to bin Laden, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian.
