BUENOS AIRES, 18 May. (Reuters) - Argentina and Brazil agreed on Tuesday to open negotiations at the level of deputy ministers to try to end the conflict generated by the barriers of Brasilia to the importation of vehicles, the government said. The Minister of Industry of Argentina, Debora Giorgi, received the Ambassador of Brazil in Buenos Aires, Enio Cordeiro, the first personal contact between officials of both countries after the Brazilian measure that impedes the import of vehicles, which could hit hard to keep Argentina's economy.
After the meeting, an Industry Ministry source announced that the vice minister of commerce of both countries, Eduardo Bianchi and Alessandro Teixeira, will meet next Monday and Tuesday in Buenos Aires with a broad agenda. The Ministry of Industry of Argentina said in a note that after meeting with Brazilian Ambassador Giorgi "both governments began to agree and coordinate issues on the agenda to be discussed at the bilateral meeting, in which will address "all outstanding issues both acute structural." Cordeiro said Tuesday in Buenos Aires that "there is goodwill on both sides of routing a solution," but made it clear that Brazil will not back the measure to place on imports of vehicles under non-automatic licensing, a request by Giorgi.
"It's not a decision against a country. The license is not automatic for a more accurate monitoring," said the diplomat. "Elimination of the measure was made clear that this is not possible," he added. GOODWILL The head of the Brazilian mission in Buenos Aires also said that Argentina "is asking that from now until the meetings start has goodwill gestures", such as allowing normal flow to the Brazilian market of Argentina stopped manufacturing vehicles in border.
Argentina Brazil sends about 7,000 vehicles per week. But Cordeiro said that "measures must be reciprocal good will" and asked the Argentine authorities to provide local market entry of shoes, tires and batteries manufactured in Brazil, and also listed bureaucratic problems with the entry of agricultural machinery, a matter very important that weighs on exports from Brazil to Argentina.
