NATO strikes again Misrata

NATO air strikes forced the Libyan government troops to withdraw from their positions in the besieged city of Misrata night, but they resumed the bombing of the port area using Grad missiles on Wednesday, a rebel spokesman. Forces loyal to Muammar Gadhafi also launched Grad missiles, Russian-made ammunition fired in multiple shocks that according to human rights groups are very inaccurate, in the center of the town rebel Zinta.

"There was heavy shelling this morning. About 15 Grad rocket landed in the center of the city, two of them where I stand right now," said the spokesman, called Abdulrahman said by telephone from Zinta, in the mountainous region of western Libya. "Five houses were destroyed. No one died, thankfully, but some children were slightly injured," he added.

Later on Wednesday, government forces began firing mortar rounds in a district in western Misrata, according to a rebel spokesman. "They made a heavy raid, using mortars," said the source, called Safieddine said by telephone from the city. A group of UN human rights came to Libya to investigate allegations that the pro-Gadhafi violated human rights and attacked civilians.

Libya says its security forces were forced to act against armed groups and supporters of Al Qaeda trying to take control of the oil exporting country. A humanitarian boat took a break in the bombing to Libya to rescue civilians and a French journalist wounded in the fighting in Misrata, with immigrant workers.

"Despite the heavy bombing in the port area of 935 (...) about immigrants and Libyans have been rescued and are now safe traveling to Benghazi, the rebel stronghold in the east, said the International Organization for Migration ( IOM). Misrata, an enclave in the west that offers a contact by sea to the east, is the focus of Gadhafi's campaign to crush a rebellion against his four decades.

But neither the army nor the rebels, backed by NATO in a campaign led by Britain and France have won a decisive victory after weeks of fighting. "Gadhafi forces withdrew from the port area where they were located yesterday (Tuesday) after the air strikes by NATO forces. The attack completely destroyed 37 military vehicles," said a rebel spokesman, called Reda, told Reuters by phone from Misrata.

"Gadhafi forces this week began to bombard an area about 10 miles north of the city. The area known as Steel. The bombing continues. (...) They are using Grad missiles warplanes are flying over the outskirts of Misrata but I hear the sound of attacks, "he said. Human Rights Watch said that the Grad missiles, which are named by the Russian word" rain " are one of the most inaccurate of the world and should never be used in civilian areas.
