Captured one of the biggest drug lords Centroamrica

A joint operation by security forces of Guatemala, the FBI and the Drug Enforcement estadoundiense (DEA) has resulted in the capture of Lorenzana Waldemar Lima, Patriarch, one of the biggest drug lords in Central America. The arrest occurred when Lorenzana, 71, was traveling in a vehicle by the municipality of El gourd, located about 65 miles northeast of Guatemala City, as reported by the Central American country's chief prosecutor, Claudia Paz y Paz.

U.S. authorities had issued a warrant for the arrest of Patriarch, whom they accuse of placing large quantities of drugs in the country thanks to its ties with Mexico's Sinaloa cartel. According to the information handled by the United States, the Lorenzana family controls the drug market in Zacapa, Chiquimula, Izabal, El Progreso, Jalapa and has a total of 15 companies-including construction, transport lines, export of fruit and petrol- which serve to launder profits.

The U.S. justice offered $ 500,000 (340,530 euros) reward for his capture to $ 200,000 (136,212) by one of his three sons, Waldemar, Harold and Elio, or two other members of the organization. Lorenzana arrested in Guatemala continue pending possible extradition to the United States where he faces charges of international drug trafficking.
