Iraqi authorities imposed a curfew on vehicles or persons to govern from the next few hours in various cities and areas of the country, in anticipation of political protests called for Friday. The Baghdad Operations Command announced on television the ban on movement of vehicles, including bicycles, from the next midnight "until further notice." The same measure was imposed in the northwestern province of Nineveh, but also affect people around public buildings, starting at 06:00 local time (0300 GMT) on Friday.
Was also imposed a curfew for people and vehicles in the central province of Salahedin and the city of Kirkuk, 250 kilometers north of Baghdad, from 06:00 local time in both cases. In all these areas there were serious disturbances last Friday during demonstrations calling for more social care and measures to end corruption, protests that ended with a dozen people dead and over hundred injured.
Tomorrow is expected to repeat the same events, in a climate of tension that has emerged in the heat of popular revolts in Tunisia and Egypt and are now spreading in Libya.
