In Canada, early elections will be held May 2

Canadians will go to the polls on May 2 for early elections. The announcement was made Saturday, March 26, following the adoption of a censure motion against the minority Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The censure motion, described as "historic" because because of "contempt of parliament" criticized the government, brought down the Conservative government.

It was supported by 156 votes, all opposition members present, 145 votes against the Conservatives. A few hours before the vote on the motion of censure, the Canadian Liberal Party leader, Michael Ignatieff, accused Governmentof "contempt of Parliament" after his refusal to deliver accurate information to members on the cost of its program against crime, the purchase of fighter planes and tax exemptions offered to companies.

"A government that does not respect democracy does not deserve to remain in place," Mr. Ignatieff was hammered. "Enough is enough. If the result of this vote is an election, the Canadian people will have the opportunity to replace an arrogant government by a government that respects democracy," Bush continued.

This is a first in British parliamentary history, the model is followed in Canada, the Commonwealth countries of which Queen Elizabeth II is head of state title. To bring this charge of contempt of parliament, the opposition had raised including the government's refusal to deliver accurate information to members on the cost of its program to fight against crime, the purchase of fighter aircraft and 'tax exemptions offered to companies.

By the end of the session, the outgoing Prime Minister Stephen Harper defended his budget, saying there was nothing in this project "that the opposition could not or should not support" and citing the need to defend recovery still "fragile" economy. "Unfortunately, he said, Michael Ignatieff and his coalition partners, the NDP (New Democratic Party) and the Bloc Quebecois have made clear they had already decided to go to elections," which "Canadians Canadian women clearly did not want.

" The Conservatives, in power since 2006 with two consecutive minority governments are given the winners in the polls. Stephen Harper should be able to retain power and, most likely, to strengthen its position.
