At least four people including a soldier, died during protests in the Syrian city of Deraa, in the south of the country, according to an NGO and an opposition website. Web page counter to the Syrian regime "Akhbar Al Sharq, quoting witnesses, reported that three people died while trying to disperse the Syrian security forces to those attending the funerals of those killed during the demonstrations in that city.
As for the military dead, a member of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that he was assaulted by his teammates by refusing to attack the Al Umari in Deraa, which allegedly sheltering about 300 protesters. Thousands of people attended the funeral of the latest victims of the protests in the southern city where demonstrations are taking tougher across the country.
According to "Akhbar Al Sharq", police fired live ammunition and tear gas against the mourners, killing at least three dead, including a girl of 11 years. Moreover, the opposition says web security forces used missiles that caused a large hole in the Al Umari to enter the building. Near this mosque took place last night an attack on an ambulance that killed at least four people, according to news agency SANA, which attributed the attack to an armed group.
However, "the Sharq Akbar" gave a completely different version of events and said that "security forces attacked a few thousand demonstrators who were against the Al Umari, causing six deaths. In recent days there have been various concentrations in various parts of Syria, but particularly in Deraa, in favor of political reform in this country, which until now had not been infected by the popular rebellions in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, or Baréin Yemen.
Syria has lived since 1963 under emergency law, which prevents the call for public demonstrations.
