Pope's appeal to young people on the net "Make good use of social networks"

CITY 'OF THE VATICAN - The social network, to which more and more people, especially young people, participating on the Internet, offer new opportunities for "sharing" and "dialogue, exchange, solidarity and creating positive relationships." But should "avoid its dangers," as "the refuge in a sort of parallel world, or excessive exposure to the virtual world" to deal with the internet is Benedict XVI, in his message for the 45th World Day of Social Communications, on theme "Truth, Reporting and authenticity of life in the digital age, giving children specific advice on how to behave on the network.

Just turn to them the Pope, because they are more involved in the revolution's social network. "I call especially young people to make good use of their presence in the digital age", which puts them "the challenge of being authentic and true to themselves, without giving in, research sharing, friendships, illusion of manufacturing his own public profile, "the pope because they, Ratzinger points out, the first person to live in" this change in communication, with all the anxieties, contradictions, and their creativity of those who start with enthusiasm and curiosity for new experiences of life.

" The Pope then refers to Facebook and similar activities, recognizing the quality, but warned against potential risks: the social networks "enable people to meet beyond the boundaries of space and the same culture, thus ushering in a whole new world of potential friends" , but "it is always important to remember that the virtual contact can not and should not replace direct human contact with people at all levels of our lives." The Pope recalled that "the involvement in the public arena more and more digital, the one created by so-called social networks, leading to establish new forms of interpersonal relationships, affects the perception of self and raises inevitably the question not only the correctness of its act, but also the authenticity of his being.

" In this context, he says, "the presence in these virtual spaces can be a sign of an authentic search for a personal encounter with each other if care is taken to avoid its dangers, such as taking refuge in a sort of parallel world, or ' excessive exposure to the virtual world. "
