An opponent Yemeni arrested after calling for protests against the pouvoirr

About 200 Yemeni journalists have called on Sunday for the release of activist Tawakel Karman, arrested overnight by police in Sanaa where clashes occurred at the university. Parties of their union headquarters, journalists staged a march towards the floor of Sana'a, demanding the release of Ms. Karman, who heads the local organization "Women Journalists without chains," reported a correspondent of the.

Ms. Karman has been arrested in the night from Saturday to Sunday by plainclothes police in a street in central San'a while on her way home, with her husband, said activists of human rights. It was Sunday morning in the central prison in Sana'a, said his family. No reason has yet been provided for the arrest of the militant, confirmed by a source of security which merely stated that his arrest stemmed from an arrest warrant issued by prosecutors.

His arrest is a "crime" and "immoral", denounced a spokesman of the parliamentary opposition, Mohamed Qobati. Inspired by the recent unrest in Tunisia led to the leakage of Tunisian President Zine Ben Ali, Tawakel Karman held two events at the university of the capital against the autocratic Arab regimes, including calling for the overthrow of President Ali Abdullah Saleh , in power for thirty years.

"Go before you're forced," could be read on some brandished placards at rallies. According to a source close to security services, Tawakel Karman, a member of the Islamist party Islah, was arrested Sunday by order of the Prosecutor General. Karman, who heads the local organization Women Journalists without chains, had also called on Yemenis to support the Tunisian people.

Over 40% of the 23 million Yemenis live on less than two dollars a day and nearly one in three is chronically hungry. The forced departure of Ben Ali has caused shockwaves in the Arab world, hit by a wave of self-immolation by fire, repeating the gesture of a young Tunisian behind the popular uprising.
