Riots: Syrians protest after Assad's speech

In Syria, there has been for the TV address by President Assad new protests. In many cities, people took to the streets and refused the offer of talks. The despot has been promised reform - but the demonstrators also attacked.


According to human rights activists protested, among other things, the population in the city of Latakia and several suburbs of Damascus against Assad's rule. "No dialogue with murderers," shouted some 300 protesters in the suburb Irbin, as one eyewitness told the news agency by telephone.

The chants were heard in the background. Opposition representatives complained that Assad had failed to provide concrete steps such as the withdrawal of army from the strongholds of protest
