Obama: "The relationship with Israel is unshakable"

"The U.S. support to the welfare and security of Israel is unshakable." Barack Obama chooses to stage the conference of the Jewish lobby in the United States, AIPAC, in Washington to address the controversy of two days ago when the U.S. president after the bilateral meeting that was held in Washington with Israel declared that " there was a need to define the borders between Israel and the territories.

" The White House meeting between Obama and the May 20 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu scored one of the most critical moment in relations between Israel and the U.S.. Today, the U.S. president insists that the negotiations "on the borders between Israel and the Palestinians should be based on the 1967 borders, with mutually agreed changes".

But states that "the idea expressed in his speech last Thursday, has been misunderstood - then add - the link between the U.S. and Israel is unbreakable." He still wanted to emphasize that "the exchange of territories between Palestinians and Israelis could lead to limits other than those born since the 1967 Arab-Israeli conflict, taking into account the new demographic realities on the ground and the needs of both parties." But he maintains that the agreement between Fatah and Hamas represents "a serious threat to peace in the region" and urges Hamas to renounce violence and recognize Israel.

The United States shall, then, to support Israel against the vote of a UN resolution which recognizes the Palestinian state. "I firmly believe that peace can not be imposed, either - said the U.S. president - the United Nations General Assembly, with its support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state." The words of a number of White House have been welcomed by Prime Minister Netanyahu, who said he was "determined to work with the United States to search for suitable ways to revive peace talks.

I appreciate - he concluded - past and present efforts of President Obama to achieve this goal. Peace is an essential commodity for all of us. " Applause, also, when Obama touches on the theme 'Iran'. "The United States - he said - will maintain a commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring the country's nuclear weapons.

Just because we understand - he added - the challenges that Israel faces in the security field, this is one of our priorities. "
