Jordanian Ministers of Justice and Health, and Yasin Hussein Hosban Megali, respectively, submitted their resignations, apparently for having permitted the departure of a businessman convicted of corruption. In a press conference, Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit said that it had accepted the resignation of two ministers, but noted that this decision did not "directly related" to the case of convicted businessman.
However, the resignation of Justice and Health headlines comes a day after King Abdullah II Bakhit asked to take "legal steps transparent" to punish those involved in corruption cases reported by public opinion in recent weeks. For this businessman, identified as Khaled Shahin, has raised controversy in the country, after the authorities allowed his departure from Jordan in late February for medical treatment in London.
Shahin was serving three years for corruption in a case linked to the acquisition of a contract for $ 1.2 million to expand an oil refinery. On 20 May, thousands of Jordanians marched in Amman and other cities to protest corruption and the government's delay in implementing economic reforms.
In those complaints were heard calls the Government for permitting the release of Shahin.
