Gaddafi Misrata blocks port to prevent the entry of aid

Misrata port has become in recent days the main objective of Qaddafi in his war against the rebels. As the only gateway to the town, surrounded by land from more than two months ago by troops loyal to the regime, the Libyan dictator concentrates its efforts on keeping it locked to prevent the entry of humanitarian aid and supplies to the rebels.

According to testimonies collected in the area, the area is suffering heavy bombing and nothing can enter or leave the city by land or sea for 48 hours, even the wounded that need to be evacuated. Another strategy Gaddafi has been laying mines in waters near the port. Since Friday, NATO ships comb the area to locate and destroy the artifacts.

Alliance sources say that it is "small mines and difficult to detect but can cause great damage to the boats." In addition, NATO has launched several raids on Monday to Qadhafi forces to try to halt the offensive. Meanwhile, Gaddafi on Monday lost another important international support for Turkey to close its embassy in Tripoli and evacuate their staff for safety reasons, after the Sunday several diplomatic missions were attacked in retaliation for the death of Saif el Arab, the youngest son Gaddafi, and three of his grandchildren, in a NATO bombing on Saturday night, according to the version of the Libyan regime.

The UN headquarters in the Libyan capital was also attacked, prompting the agency to evacuate its staff immediately. Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, said the closure of its representation in Libya "does not mean that Turkey will terminate its work" to mediate between the rebels and the Government of Libya, to which was maintained until when a conciliatory attitude.

About 2,000 people attended the funeral Monday of the Arab Saif in Tripoli. His death has not been independently verified, although state television on Sunday showed pictures of her supposed corpse along with three children, and yesterday also provided pictures of the coffin carrying his remains.

Attendees chanted cries of revenge against the international coalition or raised their hands to heaven in triumph, according to Al Jazeera.
