SANTIAGO, April 29. The Government of Sebastián Piñera is touched by the murder of Enrique Arancibia Clavel, an ex-intelligence services Augusto Pinochet regime (1973-1990) who was found dead in his office in Buenos Aires, said the Chilean Minister of Interior, Rodrigo Hinzpeter. "Mr. Arancibia Clavel was sentenced for participating in a crime shocking and painful for the country, but of course the murder of which he was victim in Argentina moves us to be a crime of this nature," he said Hinzpeter at an event in the region Valparaiso.
Arancibia Clavel's body was found by a friend at his office in Buenos Aires with about 20 stab wounds. The exoficial of the National Intelligence Directorate (DINA) was on parole after being sentenced to life imprisonment in 2004 for the murder of Chilean General Carlos Prats and his wife, Sofia Cuthbert.
Hinzpeter has announced that the government of Piñera request the Embassy of Chile in Buenos Aires to pick up the background to the murder of the DINA exoficial to establish a possible motive. "Only after that the government will take necessary measures," he explained. "The most serious respect for the family that is now living in times of deep sorrow, is not outlined hypothesis, because we believe it is very painful and unnecessary at this time," he added.
Although Arancibia Clavel was sentenced to life imprisonment, he managed the benefit of probation in Buenos Aires. The Intelligence exagente is, to date, the only person convicted for the murder of General Prats and his wife.
