Libya is a country unique in the field of human rights. There are no guarantees on human rights. There is no constitution, no separation of powers, nor legal. Only Mr Gaddafi has all the power. In Libya, there is no political party formed, there are no NGOs. Being a member of an NGO in Libya leads you to death.
In the past, there were political parties formed, Nasserism, left, Baathists, a major trade union movement. These unions have gradually disappeared until 1972 with a law saying that any participant in a political organization or association would be punished by death. These movements are intact (Arab nationalist, extreme left, center right, etc..).
They are not structured, but they exist. The tribes have always existed in Libya. It is a form of social organization that allows such to negotiate conflicts between members of the same tribe or tribes. At the time of King, they were about to disappear politically and socially. Gaddafi has remounted the tribal system and relies on it.
He has contributed to its revitalization to use it for its own purposes: power. He has no other agenda but to stay in power. Today, Qaddafi stirred fears of a split in a tribe, but the National Council has established the insurgency is based on a national basis and not tribal. The flag is the flag of the monarchy, it is called the flag of independence.
As the national anthem of independence elsewhere. Independence was achieved under the auspices of the UN between 1948 and 1951. There is no reference in the monarchical revolution underway. There is no member of the royal family who participates in these events, or who is part of the National Council.
I did not ask the Western military intervention or another. What the Libyans are asking for is a no-fly zone to prevent Mr Gaddafi to bomb civilians and the destruction of its communication networks. Libya does not want any military intervention. They have learned from the war in Iraq. Yesterday, Mr Gaddafi has bombed towns and Misureta Jdabiya.
Mr Gaddafi, 28 June 1996, killed in three hours 1270 prisoners. It happened at the Central Prison in Tripoli. This is one case among many. He killed forty opponents who were in Western Europe, including 1 or 2 in France, ten in Great Britain a fortnight in Italy but also in Greece and 7 or 8 in Germany.
Yesterday, he attacked a flight school with 540 students that will be used as human shields. The revolution was organized by youth across the internet, Facebook, Twitter ... Obviously, the tribes are not familiar with these tools. The first event was held in Benghazi, where all tribes are represented, but mostly people from the west rather than east.
The tribes have subsequently supported the movement, especially after the regime have killed about fifty people in Benghazi. Gaddafi has created battalions 100% loyal to him. These battalions are commanded by his son. For example, the whole army in the eastern part of the country has aligned itself with the revolution.
But these do not help fraternization in terms of security because these soldiers have no weapons, are not trained, they have nothing. That's why Gaddafi is still strong in the use of violence. Jihadism in Libya was set up by Qadhafi. People have no leeway. They can not express their opinions even less critical.
Only he who can express themselves. There is no organized opposition but there is movement. These ideas are not organized into political parties or others. Gaddafi has done so much harm to the Libyans that they will overcome any obstacle to get rid of him. The idea is to prepare a Constitution, to vote and run for elections.
For me it's the only thing possible at present. I do not think any of the risk of a military coup. I think the army has tried to put his nose into politics once in the past and it was enough. The military opponents who were in prison have been brainwashed and are no longer perceived as threats.
Gaddafi has corrupted the entire Libyan society. But also Westerners. He used the oil windfall. Tony Blair became an official of Mr Gaddafi. Nicolas Sarkozy was in the tent with Schröder, Berlusconi ... He blew up an airplane over Lockerbie, another plane, a French and he did not go to jail.
He was received like a king at the Elysee Palace by French President who is supposed to protect the French. We all hope that one day or another, it will be delivered to the Libyan justice system and will be tried for all his crimes against humanity. It was up to shoot down a Libyan civilian airliner in mid-afternoon in 1992 and tried to blame the Americans to turn public opinion against them.
