5.8-degree earthquake kills at least 25 dead and 250 wounded

An earthquake measuring 5.8 degrees on the Richter scale that struck Yingjiang County, in southwest China, killed at least 25 dead and 250 wounded, according to official figures. The authorities also announced that about a thousand buildings were destroyed and more than four thousand suffered damage of varying magnitude.

Of the 250 injured from the quake, 134 are in serious health conditions, although they are receiving medical care in the hospitals who were transferred after the phenomenon. The National Committee for Disaster Reduction, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Government of Yunnan sent to the area devastated nine thousand 700 tents and other support elements.
