Talibn attack kills 16 policemen in Kandahar

A Taliban suicide attack has killed 16 members of security forces in a police station in Kandahar, the largest city in southern Afghanistan. Insurgents have shot for several hours from a nearby building, as has been reported in a press conference the governor of Kandahar province Toryalai Weese. At least 50 people, including 23 other policemen, two officers and 25 civilians, nine of whom are school children, were wounded, and some are in critical condition.

The insurgents were holed up on the sixth floor, according to spot the police chief of Kandahar, General Salem Ehsas. In turn, the terrorists had prepared six car bombs that exploded just three of them have been told by the Chief Constable to France Press. Shootings and explosions were heard during the day in other parts of the former capital of the Taliban regime, almost deserted by its inhabitants.

Violence has intensified in recent months in Kandahar province, recently hit by several suicide bombings claimed by the Taliban. The last was on 7 February in the customs compound in Kandahar, dondeun bomber blew himself up near a convoy of U.S. military.
