"I walked away from Al Qaeda because Islam is my duty"

Noman Benotman just a morsel. And it is because dinner is not to your liking: concentrate on detailing why he split with Al Qaeda and how this has contributed to the peace agreements between the Kadhafi regime and the movement of which he was leader, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG ) seems to forget the food, as if the sacrifice in favor of talk time.

If not for the passion with which he outlines his arguments, it seems that this sacrifice is thought, which is a tactic of his current mission: the de-radicalized Jihadi-tion, which spoke in November in Madrid, invited by the Foundation Ortega-Marañón and the Real Instituto Elcano. Of refined English accent and exquisite manners, it is difficult to imagine Benotman (Tripoli, 1967) up arms along with other jihadists in the octa to "liberate Afghanistan from the USSR." But he soon reveals his profile military strategist, citing the Prussian General Clausewitz when he explains the reason for your letter of complaint, on 10 September, Bin Laden, his comrade in arms in Afghanistan.

"I had to attack the center of gravity for Al Qaeda to destabilize it," says Benotman, with the authority of a leader who is known, certain of the effects of his letter, the "credibility" that has among Muslims. "Al Qaeda says it defends Islam, but his actions killed innocent people," says Benotman, a firm that responds when asked why he left the terrorist organization, "Because Islam is my duty." The dinner coincides with the Feast of Sacrifice, the big day for Muslims.

Benotman you mention and thanks Armenian dinner at a restaurant. And ask for a shish kebab, which only until the end of the interview. While ever and takes care of the record, has been part of Al Qaeda, helped organize, by way of a Muslim NATO. But already in 2000 warned Bin Laden himself in Kandahar, a "global gathering of jihadis", that "the movement had failed." His outright rejection to Al Qaeda does not respond to Benotman considered illegitimate armed jihad - "may be lawful" - nor renounced the essence of its purpose, the establishment of an Islamic state in Libya, "far from a modern.

" Distanced himself from Al Qaeda after a long process, "the result of a personal interpretation of Islam that, paradoxically, proudly says, comes from their intense studies of communism. "If you bring any action, which in theory is legitimate [jihad], but you know that the results are negative [the death of innocent], Islam forbids", defends the former leader of the LIFG, while sipping a Coke, what only one drink at dinner.

"Al Qaeda ignores the Qur'an and only focuses on quotes out of context" to justify killing people, he says. However, terrorism is not the problem, but its consequence: "Al Qaeda is at the heart of Muslim culture." Bin Laden offers a country without borders, "the umma, young people without hope," Benotman grieving.

So the solution is in the culture "and not" as is "in the increase in security spending, seems to conclude. But he soon realizes that "appears" that dinner: "I will ask for an espresso, which is my hallmark," jokes Benotman.
