Punished assassinated the governor of Punjab because it was against the law on blasphemy

ISLAMABAD - Salman Taseer, Governor of Pakistan's Punjab province, was assassinated by one of his bodyguards during a visit to Islamabad. It is still not fully understood the dynamics of homicide. According to a first reconstruction, Taseer was sitting in a restaurant in a popular district of the capital, when one of its security officers shot him against nine bullets.

In the firefight that followed were injured five guards. The murderess was arrested. According to another version, given the Samaa TV, the attack took place in the market Kohs, attended by government officials and foreign tourists. The governor was shot as he was climbing on his car. Rushed to the hospital, died shortly after.

The bodyguard is called muntaz Malik Hussain Qadri, surrendered to the police, has confessed to being the perpetrator of the crime and then offered his explanation of the gesture: the Governor Taseer, according to the murderess, "he criticized the law blasphemy calling it a 'kala Kanoon' (in Urdu, "Black Legend"), which is a bad law because it lends itself to the dark manipulation of religious minorities, reported the Pakistani interior minister, Rehman Malik.

Just because of his opposition to the instrumental use of the charge of blasphemy easy, Taseer, a member of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), had pledged its support to Asia Bibi, a Christian sentenced to death for insulting the name of Mohammed on the basis of very severe law, in defending all the religious fundamentalist groups in Pakistan.

In the past Taseer was also marked by some statements against Islamic extremist groups operating in Punjab. And last November he had gone to find the Bibi in jail, promising to submit an application for clemency to President Asif Ali Zardari, which is considered a loyal ally. Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, in a crisis after losing last Sunday's parliamentary majority after the exit from the coalition government of a party of Sindh, has condemned the assassination of the governor of Punjab and declared three days of mourning national.

The Prime Minister also appealed to supporters of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) because "remain calm" and allow the proper conduct of investigations. The PPP has announced that as a sign of mourning will be canceled all public events of the next two weeks.
