Explosion destroys shopping center in Russia, killing two people

.- An explosion Saturday destroyed a five-story shopping center in the Russian city of Ufa, in the southwest of the country, starting a fire that killed two people and wounded five. People inside the building were evacuated while fire crews faced the flames generated after the explosion in the huge complex, which houses shops, restaurants and nightclubs in the main city in the Russian region of Bashkortostan, of considerable Muslim population.

Television pictures showed the building engulfed in flames, with columns of smoke rising over the fire. Were found the bodies of two people after firefighters inspected the building. "One is of a man whose identity is being determined. Before it was found the body of a young woman, who was born in 1993," said Maksim Rodionov, a spokesman for the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Interfax news agency.

Five people were injured in the fire, three of whom were hospitalized, said Oleg Zugeyev, spokesman for the regional emergencies ministry, the RIA news agency. The cause of the fire was not immediately clarified, but Zugeyev said he believes the fire started in a room reserved for smoking hookahs located on the third floor.
