The Brazilian Federal Public Ministry, through its Attorney, announced yesterday the opening of an investigation into the sudden enrichment of the Minister for the Civil and number two the Brazilian government, Antonio Palocci. All efforts coordinated between the president Lula da Silva, the Executive and the Workers' Party (PT) to stop an investigation of the case, just as they claim the opposition parties in Parliament have been in vain.
Palocci lived and in 2006 another scandal that led him to resign as economy minister. Dilma Rousseff the president broke the silence yesterday saying that the accusations against his minister of trust are an attempt to destabilize the opposition of the Executive. Until yesterday the Government had managed to contain any attempt at parliamentary inquiry.
But the case has been exploited by other means, perhaps unexpectedly for the involved person. "Although the press has reported significant growth of the affected assets have not been publicly presented justifications for verifying the compatibility of services with the hefty amounts received," reads the statement issued yesterday by the prosecutor Roberto Gurgel.
The initiation of an investigation by the Attorney General could be an argument for the opening of a parallel investigation in Congress, which further afearía Palocci situation. The truth is that in Brazil no one can explain exactly how the strong man of Rousseff so far has not responded to requests for information arising from opposition groups.
The statement made yesterday by the prosecutor leads inexorably to the question: if Palocci has nothing to hide, would not it have been smarter to cut short the suspicions offering all the information you needed? Although the head of the Civil House gets to prove his innocence, the strategy of wait and see what happens and happens a heavy toll in the Brazilian press, which does not relinquish his daily bombardment.
