Upsurge of violence on the border between Gaza and Israel

Another day of violence, the largest for several months, took place at the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, controlled by Hamas, Tuesday, March 22. The balance sheet, according to Palestinian medical sources, is at least eight deaths on the Palestinian side, including three children. "At least four martyrs were killed in shootings of young people playing football in the neighborhood Chajaïya" in eastern Gaza City, said Abu Adham Selmiya, head of emergency services in the band Gaza.

The young victims were aged 11, 16 and 20 years, the owner of the house, aged about fifty years, having also been killed. A dozen people were also wounded by gunfire. An Israeli air raid on the neighborhood of Zeitoun, still in the east of the city, was also killed four. This would Islamic Jihad activists.

The Israeli army confirmed it had fired Chajaïya, indicating they had used but not artillery mortar "against a site of rocket attacks in northern Gaza Strip" after firing four homemade Qassam rockets into Israel , she said. "Apparently, innocent civilians were hit by gunfire, which deplores the military," admitted a spokeswoman for Israeli military.

A little later, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his regret "following the death of innocent civilians killed by mistake in the Gaza Strip by Israeli army gunfire in response to Hamas to Israeli citizens innocent "in a statement released by his office. The Israeli army said it was not seeking escalation, but a Hamas spokesman, Ismail Roudouane, said: "This massacre will not go unpunished and the Zionist entity should expect a harsh response." Mr.

Netanyahu has also accused Hamas of using "human shields" in reference to the firing of rockets into Israeli territory from Gaza settlements. "The State of Israel has no intention of causing deterioration of the situation, but our army will continue to act decisively to defend Israeli citizens, "added the premier.

These days the exchange of fire and air strikes have increased at the border between Gaza and Israel, in a fatal gear: Tuesday morning, a projectile was fired from Gaza into southern Israel. "This thing fell no injuries in the district of Eshkol" in the Negev desert, according to a military spokesman.

Before the shelling, Israeli aircraft bombed targets in Gaza overnight in retaliation for other shells and rockets fired by the armed wing of Hamas, in response to the deaths of two members killed in an Israeli raid on March 16. These shots are unprecedented since the Israeli offensive Cast Lead, December 2008-January 2009 against the Gaza Strip.

Until now, Hamas is observing a truce with Israel, to avoid another showdown after this devastating operation, which had killed 1,400 Palestinians in Gaza. On Tuesday, France called on Palestinians and Israelis "to show restraint" after the rocket and the first air raids in retaliation for the latter.

"We call on all parties to exercise utmost restraint to avoid escalation of violence, whose recent history has shown that it can have disastrous consequences," said the Quai d'Orsay.

  1. They were not observing a truce with Israel! That is not presenting the whole side of the story.

Hamas has been launching rockets into southern Israel consistently during this "truce." 238 fell in Israel last year. To date, this year, 200 anti-tank missiles and rockets have landed in Israel from Hamas. Today alone, 45 were launched in a three hour period.

Let's get all the details here before we start judging.
