Arab League believed unnecessary bombing of Libya

The secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, said today that "the protection of civilians does not need a military operation in Libya. "What happened in Libya is different from the purpose of imposing a no-fly zone, we want to protect civilians and not to bomb more civilians," Musa said in a joint press conference with European Parliament President, Jerzy Buzek, the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

According to Musa, the Council resolution 1973 UN Security talked about the prohibition of any land invasion or occupation. "We have said we do not need any military operation," the secretary general of the Arab League, who said he has asked for full reports of what is happening in Libya.

However, Musa said that from the beginning the Arabs demanded the imposition of a no-fly zone "to protect civilians and avoid Libyan additional measure." Likewise, Musa said that at present consultations are to hold an emergency meeting of Arab League on the situation throughout the region, especially in Libya.

Washington announced today that it had managed to impose an air exclusion zone in Libya after the start yesterday of the allied operation Odyssey sunrise "against the North African country. In the military intervention are using French planes and warships and submarines of the United States and Britain to attack Libyan military targets.
