Tunisian minister calls a "ridiculous" the EU aid

The Tunisian Minister of Industry, Afif Chelbi, said it was "ridiculous", Thursday, February 17, the amount of aid - 17 million - given by the European Union to his country after the revolution of 14 January. "When the head of European diplomacy, Catherine Ashton, said to our minister, it was thought he had misheard and asked: 'Millions or billions?", Said the Chelbi press after a roundtable in Rome with Italian Foreign Minister.

"We will immediately release 17 million euros to help the government. But there will be 258 million euros from the EU in 2013", said Ashton Monday during his visit of several hours in Tunis. "Europe shows this way not to have grasped the scope of the historical event that occurred on the south shore of the Mediterranean," said Minister of Tunisia, deploring the fact that the EU has " not been up to the events "and hoping" awareness "news.

The head of Italian diplomacy, for its part, asked Europe to "do more" for Tunisia, recalling that Rome had allocated 5 million euros in immediate aid.
