'Regional instability is urgent Israeli-Palestinian peace': Peres

.- The instability in the Middle East, emerging from popular uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, makes urgent the return of Palestinians and Israelis to the negotiating table to achieve a peace agreement, said Sunday the Israeli President Shimon Peres . "The dramatic events of recent days show the need to delete from the agenda the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as soon as possible and that is exploited to the detriment of both parties," Peres said while inaugurating an international conerencia Herzliya security , near Tel Aviv.

In his speech, Peres referred to the popular uprising in Egypt and Tunisia, the Lebanese political crisis, the secession of southern Sudan and the Iranian nuclear program. "History has lost patience. Everything comes galloping speed. Or follow the wind of history, or she would be without us.

Some advise waiting the storm to pass, but nobody knows when it will end," he said. On Saturday the Middle East Quartet (UN, U.S., EU and Russia) met in Germany, it was "imperative" the resumption of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, given the context of crisis in Egypt and the region .

The Palestinians, who demand the cessation of Jewish settlement in their territories before resuming the negotiations, responded that the Quartet statement is not "live up to their expectations."
