In the north-west of Tunisia, the police fired at a mob.

It apparently killed four demonstrators were injured over a dozen. The protests were directed against the police chief who allegedly hit a woman. Tunis - According to the Ministry of Interior were killed in the clashes in the north-west of Tunisia two people and injured 17 more.

A local journalist reported that two more people died on the way to hospital. Officially, this was not confirmed however. The official Tunisian news agency that around 1,000 people had attacked the police station in the town of Kef, after the police chief of a person acted against unduly.


The local journalist said the police chief had struck a woman. Ministry of Interior on this, no further information could be obtained. It confirmed, however, that the police chief was arrested and investigators were on their way to Kef. The Regional Prefect Mohammed Nadschib Tlidschali called on Saturday evening on the radio for calm, saying the police chief was himself hospitalized.

The citizens had attacked the police station with stones and small fire bombs, said the interior ministry. In addition, the amount of two vehicles was set on fire, including a police car. The police were first proceeded against the demonstrators with tear gas and shot into the air. Only then had been fired on the crowd, it said in the statement of the Ministry.
