The castle of Jean-Bedel Bokassa sold to a private

The former home of Jean-Bedel Bokassa of the Central deposed emperor died in 1996, was purchased Wednesday, January 12 915 000 euros by an individual during an auction. Hardricourt located near Paris, the area includes "a castle with a surface area of 547.78 m2, a caretaker's house [95.49 m 2], a vast wooded park and a double garage," according to Legal Notice published in December with a starting price set at 735,000 euros.

The auction held in Versailles in competition three potential buyers. They were won by an individual who wishes to make the castle "personal use for him and his family," said counsel for the buyer, who declined to disclose the identity of his client. This auction bidding on (for sharing an undivided), was organized following a decision of the High Court of Versailles.

Former Emperor Bokassa settled in December 1983 to Hardricourt, one of his properties in France, after a four-year exile in the Ivory Coast in the wake of his testimony September 21, 1979 by French paratroopers . This was precipitated by the alleged massacre of hundreds of schoolchildren by his bodyguard during disturbances in Bangui.

A son of Jean-Bedel Bokassa, George, a former defense minister of his father (1975-1976), pleaded with French President Nicolas Sarkozy to intervene to avoid what he considers to be an abstraction of the legacy of his family. Present at the auction, he said he received a "letter of the late President of the Republic" inviting him to contact the Department of Justice, as he prepared to "see a lawyer to prevent this sale ".

This will be considered final after a period of ten days of bidding.
