Brisbane thousands of homes threatened by the overwhelming flood

Some 20,000 homes of dozens of neighborhoods in Brisbane, Australia's third largest city and capital of Queensland state, ravaged by a terrible flood last three weeks, may be under water within hours by the worst floods in decades. The overflow of the Brisbane River has already flooded several neighborhoods, although the waters are expected to reach its peak between now and the weekend.

For now, the waters now reach 4.5 meters, according to local newspaper The Courier Mail, which affect about 50 neighborhoods. They have already evacuated around 1,500 people in the city. In the coming days, the waters could reach tomorrow, according to recent estimates, 5.2 meters, so that 19,700 homes and 3,500 commercial premises in 2,100 will probably flooded streets, according to Mayor Campbell Newman.

The figures coincide with those given by the governor of the state of Queensland, Anna Bligh. However, fall somewhat below the level reached by water in the devastating floods in the city in 1974. This is the worst flooding in the city in more than a century already killed 12 people across the state, although the missing number in the tens: Bligh has reported that police were looking for 90 people whose family members can not contact them.

Brisbane's financial center is a ghost town, with thousands of people evacuated or advised to stay home, where they suffer power cuts. West of Brisbane, Ipswich City is in chaos after the passing of the great flood. Although there are fears that the worst of the flood is coming, the Governor of Queensland has highlighted the "good news that the rain has stopped, so now we have a number of search and rescue teams prepared to deploy along the valley to start what can really be a grim search for bodies and police and emergency workers will have a tough day.

I think we impressed by what they find. "
