Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen, has won the confidence vote held Tuesday, Jan. 18 in his party, Fianna Fail, obtaining insurance to remain in his head to the laws of March. Faced with the rebellion that has been brewing for months within the Fianna Fail, fueled by economic difficulties, the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) had called Sunday evening to organize a vote of confidence from the parliamentary group of his training .

Following a meeting of several hours, the secret ballot gave a majority of votes to Mr Cowen on the 71 voting. The rebellion within the party was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michael Martin.
