7.2 degree earthquake shakes Pakistan

.- An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 rocked a remote area in southwestern Pakistan and was felt in several parts of the country, where it caused fear among the population, researchers said. The earthquake had its epicenter in the province of Balochistan, the least populated area of the country, reported the U.S.

Geological Survey. At the moment there is no information of damage from the quake, which was registered at 01.23 local time on Wednesday (20.23 GMT Tuesday) at a depth of 10 km and was felt even in India, according to preliminary information. The quake originated at a depth of about 84 kilometers (50 miles), the ministry said.

Its epicenter was located in an area located 320 kilometers (200 miles) southwest of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan, said the head of Pakistan's meteorological department, Arif Mahmud. The region is prone to earthquakes and is still recovering from the massive 7.6 magnitude earthquake on 8 October 2005 caused 80,000 deaths in the Northwest and in Kashmir (India) and left more than 3 million homeless.
