Minister resigns francs accused of sexual agresin

Secretary of State of the French public, Georges Tron, accused of sexual assault by two former employees of the City of Draveil, where he is mayor, announced this morning his resignation of the government of Nicolas Sarkozy. The politician, with rank of minister, has expressed its willingness to prove his innocence, after several days of controversy.

Just two weeks after the arrest in the U.S. for sexual assault of the International Monetary Fund director Dominique Strauss-Khan, who was emerging as the Socialist candidate for president and was leading the polls, if Tron had become untenable for the Executive . In a letter to conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy, Tron, 53, indicated his intention to "defend his innocence, fighting against vindictive allegations of two former partners," which had been dismissed for various reasons.

Prime Minister François Fillon, said in a statement welcomed the "courage and sense of responsibility" Tron, "who has done so general interest prevails." "This decision will allow the defense to deal now with complete freedom," he adds. Two former employees of the City of Draveil, 34 and 36 years, filed a sexual harassment on Tuesday and were questioned on Thursday by police, but prosecutors are investigating whether the facts may be considered sexual assault and rape.

The two women, of which identity is unknown, accuse Tron, a follower of foot reflexology, a massage Had they been made in the feet that have degenerated into sexual assault. The facts would go back to between 2007 and 2010. The politician has not been formally charged so far. In a country still shaken by the scandal of Dominique Strauss Khan, the case of Tron has been growing day by day resulting in a growing unease within the ruling party, the Union for a Popular Movement and the Government itself.

The same Sunday morning, Foreign Minister, Alain Juppe, called on the Secretary of State to "take their responsibilities." But until the last moment, their environment more directly repeated that the politician was not going to resign, unless directly asked him President Sarkozy and Prime Minister Fillon.

Appointed in March 2010 after the defeat of the UMP in regional elections, Tron was close to Dominique de Villepin, Sarkozy's political archenemy in his own party. His duties will be assumed by the Minister of the Budget and government spokesman, François Baroin, so that his place shall not be reallocated.

Tron maintains his position as mayor of Draveil, he has held since 1995.
